Audience Research

As a result of my questionnaire I have constructed a conclusion that will help me make my own music magazine within the mainstream genre.
The front cover will follow a three palette colour scheme that are bright colours and stand out to the audience on the first glance.  I want my magazine to look cool and edgy, to do this I will feature a model that appeals to the audience and looks intriguing; I will also use graphics on the front cover to attract the attention to a particular article. The model on my front cover needs to look sexy and attractive. The pose of the model will be something similar to Rihanna’s on the front cover of Billboard as I have found that this was the most appealing pose. Costume of the model will be something simple that makes a bold impression on the audience. Most people thought the layout of Q magazine made use of the space better than Billboard magazine did, for this reason I will structure carefully to ensure it is not too cluttered and only shows the best articles on the front cover. A large logo in the corner proved to be more appealing than a long title across the page, also the fonts used on the front cover of Billboard were described as boring, therefore I shall make the name and logo of my magazine something short and memorable and use fonts that look exciting to the audience. Overall the front cover of Q magazine was described as modern and sophisticated with the simple but effective layout, but the front cover used for Billboard magazine is more fun, energetic and lively with the bright colours and seductive photograph.
The contents page of Q follows the house style set by the front cover, my focal group found this attractive and they liked the logo of Q at the very top of the contents page. On my content page I shall use the same colour scheme my front page uses and I will also include the magazine logo so it gets noticed and recognised by the audience. Images are included on both contents page to show who features in the magazine; therefore I will add images with page numbers to show where the article about that particular person is. People preferred the contents of Q over Billboard, as there was not as much writing to clutter the page. Although the No1 chart was noticed first in most cases, it informs the reader which bands and artists are currently topping the charts: I will consider using this feature on my contents page. Many people prefer to reader articles that interview their favourite artists or review new and upcoming songs, therefore I shall include lots of interviews and reviews in my magazine to ensure I attract the target audience. The headers used on the contents page clearly split the articles up into different categories which proved successful with my focal group; I shall do this on my contents page so the reader can easily find what they are looking for.
The double page spread of both magazines contain a lot of text, people preferred the article written in Q as there was not as much writing to reader and more pictures to make the page look more attractive. The drop caps provide the aesthetic appeal to the page which attracts the audience and makes them want to read on, the enlarged quotes taken from the celebrities also do this. From the feedback I have received I have decided my article will be approximately 4 columns wide so it doesn’t put off the reader, but it will also include pictures connected to the story to intrigue the reader.
